Bioinformatics and Computational Biology

Summary

CBBio was founded on 2009 in Barcelona, and moved to Seville in 2013. It is located at the CABD since 2018.

Our main interests deal with protein function and evolution and their relationship with structure /function. We are applying AI-based methods to address these issues, in particular protein Language Models.  We particpate in the executive board of Function COSI (International Society of Computational Biology).

Our research has resulted in more than 60 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, invited reviews, and over 50 oral presentations in national and international venues.

Members of the group have continued their careers as Group Leaders, Heads of Bioinformatics platforms, and some became CEOs of bio-tech based companies.

We are a team of Biologists, Bioinformaticians, and Engineers using computational methods, aiming to understand:

  • how proteins evolve and acquire novel functions
  • how mutations impact a given protein function
  • how can we improve function annotation in no model organisms using AI-based methods.
