The summer course “Genetic Models in Research: From Bacteria to Mice,” organized by CABD staff, has been a resounding success
published on 25/07/2025

'Genetic models for research: from mice to bacteria' has been part of the Olavide series of courses in Carmona organized by Sol Sotillos, Ana Fernández Miñán, and Laura Tomás Gallardo from the CABD.

They have brought together a magnificent team of teachers who have explained the theoretical and practical advantages of each model organism and the most commonly used techniques in biomedical research to the group of participants. The great advantage of the course is that it is mainly experimental and will be taught by teachers from the CABD and the US, divided between the UPO headquarters in Carmona, the CABD, and classrooms at the UPO.

It is aimed at undergraduate and master's students, as well as pre- and post-doctoral staff who want to learn how to work with laboratory model systems, allowing them to gain initial experience. This type of training is important when deciding what type of research career to pursue or, in the case of pre- and post-doctoral students, to continue.

This course has been made possible thanks to the sponsorship of several companies and institutions: C. Viral, Fundación Instituto Biomol, Proquinorte, DICSA, and the María de Maeztu Unit of the CABD.

On the occasion of this course, Ana Fernandez Miñan was interviewed by Europa Press, where she explained the importance of basic research in finding solutions to societal problems, such as the study of diseases and their treatments.
