Cell Culture Facility

1. DESCRIPTION

In the Cell Culture Service of the CABD, you can perform, following the current rules, experimental procedures of primary cultures of human cells, mouse cells and established cell lines. Both cell lines and primary cultures can be genetically modified by transfection or infection in the medium of viral vectors.

The Cell Culture Facility gives technical support to the research groups of the CABD.

The service has a cell culture room P2 and a high resolution microscopy equipment for in vivo monitoring of cultures (Celldiscoverer7).

Technical support: Corín Díaz Ramos

2. Available services

Control of users' access (record of authorized users).
Technical advice to the users who require it.
Collaboration in the elaboration / updating of the rules for the use of the cell culture rooms.
Supervision of the fulfillment of these rules.
Assignment of equipment and shifts of use / cleaning of these equipment
Preventive maintenance/ cleaning of specific equipment etc.
Maintenance in culture of cell lines.

a. Cell Culture Room P2 features

The cell culture laboratory is indicated for the work of primary cultures of human cells, mouse cells and for the cultivation of established lines. The use of viruses and vectors will be restricted only to personnel authorized for such use. Mainly, they will have access permission, the vectors that can be used in a P2 and that have also been approved by their service managers, giving their previous approval to work in a room of level P2.
The cell culture room P2 is equipped with the basic material necessary to obtain and maintain cell cultures in a laboratory.

b. Celldiscoverer 7 (Automated Microscopy Platform for Live Cell Imaging)
Inverted microscope, fully automated with C02 control, temperature and humidity. Thanks to its double set of lenses, it allows an amplification of the sample from 2.5x to 100x. It has lighting using LED technology in transmitted light and fluorescence. These features allow the observation and quantification of cell behavior over time by collecting and analyzing the images throughout the day automatically. It allows the contrast of the high definition phase, green fluorescence and red fluorescence.

Studies of phagocytosis, apoptosis, chemotaxis, cell migration and invasion, and cytotoxicity, monitoring of stem cells, efficiency of transfection and efficiency of cloning can be carried out.
